Gold Producers' Shares Mixed in Early Trading As the Price of Gold Gains but Dollar Rises Too
NEW YORK (AP) -- Shares of gold producers opened mixed Thursday as the price of the precious metal rose in European trading but the dollar showed strength.
In Zurich, gold traded at $895.90 bid per troy ounce, up from $888.10. The euro was quoted at $1.5562, down from $1.5664 late Wednesday in New York. Gold and gold-related assets often move in the opposite direction from the U.S. dollar.
Here is how some key gold mining companies fared in morning trading.
Agnico-Eagle Mines Ltd. fell 74 cents to $66.36
Iamgold Corp. rose a penny to $7.35
Yamana Gold Inc. rose fell 24 cents to $14.33
Kinross Gold Corp. fell 26 cents to $22.64
